Yes. Joining rooms, DMs, and Random Chat are all free with no account. Yakk Premium ($4.99/month) is an optional upgrade: no ads, a colored nickname, a 💎 badge, access to the #lounge room, and a gender filter for Random Chat matching.
No. Guests get the full chat experience — rooms, DMs, and Random Chat. An account reserves your nickname permanently (so nobody else can take it) and unlocks friend lists with live online status and one-click DMs.
Yakk is an adults-only community. Everyone confirms they are 18 or older before entering, and age is checked again on the join form. This keeps the conversation and the moderation rules simple: adults talking to adults.
Hit the 🎲 Random Chat button (or type /random) and you're paired 1:1 with another stranger. Not feeling it? Type /next to skip to someone new — your partner is notified when you disconnect. Everyone picks their own gender in their profile; Premium members can also filter who they're matched with.
Direct messages are ephemeral — they aren't stored in our database. They do pass through our servers to reach the other person, so treat them like any online chat: don't share passwords, financial details, or anything you couldn't afford to have forwarded.
Yes. Anyone in the room can read what you post there. Don't share personal information in public rooms.
Two layers: automatic filters block slurs (including evasion tricks) and spam patterns like message floods and link floods, with escalating mutes for repeat offenders. Human moderators handle everything else — harassment, ban evasion, edge cases. See the chat safety page for the full picture.
Yes. Click anyone's name and choose 🚫 Block user, or type /block nickname. You won't see their room messages and they can't DM you — random chat won't pair you with them either. See your list with /blocked or in your ⚙ profile. Blocks are permanent for accounts, and last for the session for guests.
Free users may see ads in the top banner and sidebar slots. Premium members never see ads. We never sell your data — see the Privacy Policy.
