This policy explains what data Yakk collects and what we do with it. By using Yakk you agree to this policy.

1. Data we collect

• Account data: if you create an account, we store your username and a salted scrypt hash of your password. We never store your password itself and cannot recover it for you.
• Profile data: when you join, we ask for your age (required — you must be 18 or older), gender, and country (optional). This is used for random-chat matching and shown back to you in your profile. It is not displayed to other users.
• Chat messages: public room messages are stored so rooms can show recent history. Private (DM) messages are relayed live and are not stored on our servers.
• Friend lists: stored so your friends persist between sessions.
• Technical data: our server logs may record IP addresses, timestamps, and user-agent strings for security and debugging.
• Payments: Premium purchases are processed by Stripe. We receive subscription status and never see your card number. See Stripe's privacy policy.
• Ads: free users see ads from third-party ad networks, which may use cookies or device identifiers under their own privacy policies.

2. How we use it

To operate the chat service, keep nicknames and accounts working, enforce our Terms (moderation and safety), process Premium subscriptions, and keep the service secure. We do not sell your personal data.

3. Sharing

We share data only with: (a) Stripe, to process payments; (b) ad networks, as described above; (c) authorities, when required by law or to prevent harm. Room messages you send are visible to other users in that room — that is the point of a chat room.

4. Retention & deletion

Room messages are kept with a rolling history limit. Accounts, friend lists, and settings persist until you ask us to delete them — contact contact@yakk.app and we will remove your account data within a reasonable time, except where we must retain records for legal or safety reasons.

5. Security

Passwords are hashed with scrypt and each account has a unique salt. No system is perfectly secure; use a unique password and never share sensitive information in chat.

6. Children

Yakk is for users 18 and older only. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18; if we learn such data exists, we delete it.

7. Local storage & cookies

We store your 18+/Terms acknowledgment in your browser's localStorage so you aren't asked on every visit. We set no tracking cookies of our own; Stripe Checkout and ad networks may set their own when you interact with them. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to measure aggregate traffic (page views, referrers, device types) — it is cookieless and does not identify individual visitors.

8. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data. Contact contact@yakk.app to exercise these rights.

9. Changes

We may update this policy; material changes will re-trigger the in-app acknowledgment prompt.
